2 Chronicles 32:15

Made Simple — Modern English Translation

Translated by Verse Made Simple Editorial
KJV ORIGINAL
Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?

✦ MADE SIMPLE

So don't let Hezekiah fool you or talk you into believing him. Don't trust what he says, because no god from any nation or kingdom has ever been able to rescue their people from my power or from my ancestors' power. So how could your God possibly save you from my control?

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

The Assyrian king is boasting that no god has ever been strong enough to stop him or his ancestors, so Israel's God won't be able to either.

📚 Historical Context

This is part of a threatening message from Sennacherib, king of Assyria, during his siege of Jerusalem around 701 BC. The Assyrian empire had conquered many nations and their gods seemed powerless to stop them. Sennacherib was trying to demoralize the people of Jerusalem by claiming their God was just as weak as all the other defeated gods.
